In February of 1977, George Rose read an article in Mother Earth News about the growing need for Chimney Sweeps. The article described the lack of available sweeps to meet the growing demand for chimney service as people were turning to alternative forms of heating as oil prices were rising. George made an investment in chimney cleaning equipment and read everything he could to learn about the trade. He strapped ladders on top of his light blue 1975 Plymouth Fury, placed several newspaper ads, and by September 1977, Georgetown Chimney Sweep had taken off as a business.

Since inception 36 years ago, Georgetown Chimney has cleaned over 35,000 chimneys. The company is headquartered in Georgetown, MA, where George leads the operations of the Georgetown branch office.
